SMART home trials | Get involved!

2nd August 2019

We're carrying out a range of SMART home tech trials and we'd love for you to be involved. From tech that can detect leaks before you even know it's happening to sensors that can help detect humidity to then help with damp and condensation there is at least one trial we think would benefit everyone.

Take a look at the trials on offer and if you'd like any more information about any of them please email development@rhp.org.uk.

LeakBot

Leaks are one the biggest causes of damage to homes, a small drip from a pipe can grow into something bigger and cause expensive damage to both your home and your possessions. To address this, we’re trialling leak detectors.

If you live in a house (sorry, we can’t trial this in flats just yet), and have Wi-Fi connectivity we’d like you to be a part of our trial with ‘LeakBot’. We have 100 to give away, so you can be one of the first to trial!

What is LeakBot?

LeakBot is a small device which clips on near your stop cock and monitors your water temperature. It can detect if there’s a leak in your home and will alert you and RHP’s repairs team. Installation only takes five minutes and you can do this yourself. The trial will last around three months.

How will you benefit from this?

- Earlier knowledge of leaks in your home, meaning you can arrange with us to carry out a repair before it is too late.

- Some insurance companies will lower your Home Insurance premium if you have a LeakBot in your home.

- LeakBot’s app allows you to keep an eye on your home even when you’re not there.

How to get involved

If you would like to get involved email us at development@rhp.org.uk and pop ‘‘LeakBot’ into the subject line. We will be in touch with more information about when the trial will begin. Thank you!

Amazon Echo Dot

“Alexa… tell RHP I’d like to trial a smart speaker in my home.”

We have 15 Amazon Echo Dots to give away to customers who would like to be involved in trial to see how this exciting technology can be utilised by both you and RHP.

What is Amazon Echo Dot?

Amazon Echo Dot is a voice-controlled speaker which incorporates ‘Alexa’. You can interact with Alexa asking her to play music, search the web, set alarms, control compatible smart home devices and more… Alexa can make your life at home easier. We want her to help you connect to your home and to RHP.

What we are asking of you…

In exchange for the free Amazon Echo Dot we will ask that you interact with Alexa whenever you have a question about your home or think about contacting RHP, you will work with us and share this information so that we can move forward with how we might use this technology to deliver a better digital service. The trial will last for around three months and we will ask for your cooperation, but the Echo Dot is yours to keep at the end!

If you would like to be involved in this exciting trial you will need to have Wi-Fi in your home. For full Alexa functionality it will be best if you have a Smart phone that you can install apps onto.

How to get involved

If you would like to get involved email us at development@rhp.org.uk and pop ‘‘Amazon Alexa’ into the subject line. We will be in touch with more information about when the trial will begin. Thank you!

Smart thermostat

Do you want to make savings on your gas and electricity bills by trialling a free smart thermostat?

What is a smart thermostat?

A smart thermostat can control your heating and hot water using its easy-to-use touchscreen. It has sensors that monitor temperature, humidity, air pressure, light and motion.

How will you benefit?

Over time, it learns and remembers your heating preferences. Using its sensors, it will understand when best to turn your heating on or off. In doing so, it can save you up to 10% off your annual energy bill. It will also help protect your home from mould and damp.

What we’re asking of you?

We’d love you to trial this technology out in your home for your benefit and also for the benefit of other customers. Some information will be shared with RHP’s maintenance team, which helps us monitor the quality of your home and take action if required. For example, if increased humidity levels might lead to damp or mould, alerts can help the maintenance team detect and fix issues throughout your block more quickly.

This thermostat works without an internet connection so will not use your Wi-Fi. It’ll only take around 90 minutes to install and the trial will last around three months.

How to get involved

If you would like to get involved email us at development@rhp.org.uk and pop ‘smart thermostat’ into the subject line. We will be in touch with more information about when the trial will begin. Thank you!

Humidity & temperature sensors

This particular tech would be sensors in the home which monitor humidity and temperature. In the future it’s likely this tech will be in all homes across the UK so you can say ‘I was an early pioneer’ with this.

By monitoring the results remotely we can better understand the extent of the problem throughout your block. This will also allow us to intervene sooner to prevent subsequent effects such as mould. It will also give us evidence to guide us to the positive next steps to best future-proof your block.

What we’re asking of you

We’d like to work with you by installing a small sensor in your home to measure condensation and temperature. The trial will last three months. Any information we gather about your home will of course be available to you.

The installation will only take around three hours and we’ll do all we can to make sure this causes as little disruption as possible. You also might like to know that the sensors will not be connected to your Wi-Fi.

To increase the chances of success we need as many volunteers are possible within your block so please contact us on the email address below if you’re happy to take part. The future is literally in your hands.

How you’ll benefit from this

-We’ll identify sooner if your home is at risk and minimise the risk of condensation.

-You’ll be able to make changes to better manager any issues within your home.

How to get involved

If you would like to get involved email us at development@rhp.org.uk and pop ‘sensors’ into the subject line. We will be in touch with more information about when the trial will begin. Thank you!

With all trials, some information gathered by these devices will be shared with RHP to improve the service we offer. More details will be available before you start the trial.
