Pets

Here’s what you need to know about keeping pets in your home

If you’d like a pet, please check your tenancy or lease agreement first.

You’re allowed to have a dog if you have your own private garden, and they’ll have access to it. Cats are allowed, but they mustn’t cause disruption to others or damage our property.

For leaseholders that sublet their homes, it’s your responsibility to make sure tenants keep to the terms of the lease.

Yes the following animals are never allowed in any of our homes:

  • Breeds of dogs outlined in the Dangerous Dog Act 1991.
  • Wild, farm and poisonous animals.
  • Endangered species.

Assistance dogs have important rights under the Equality Act 2010, as they’re relied upon to help with daily activities. Therapy dogs are different, so if you want to keep a dog for therapeutic reasons, you’ll need to provide supporting medical information.

You must ask us for permission to keep poultry. You must also check with your local council about any rules that may prevent you from keeping poultry.

  • You’re responsible for caring for your pet.
  • They shouldn’t roam unsupervised, be a nuisance to neighbours, or foul shared areas.
  • All animals must be kept under control, with dogs kept on a lead in shared areas.
  • Pets are only allowed in shared areas to gain access to your home, and dogs must be kept on a lead.
  • Pets must be kept under control when our employees or contractors are visiting your home.
  • Any dogs must be secured behind a closed door in a separate room before we arrive, otherwise we will not be able to carry out any work. This will also help to stop your pets potentially getting distressed about us being there.
  • If you have a garden, you must keep the garden boundaries secure to stop your pet(s) escaping.
  • You must make sure your pet doesn't damage our property. If you allow the nuisance or damage to continue, we may take legal action which could result in you losing your home.
  • Commercial breeding from our properties is not allowed.
