Declutter responsibly this Zero Waste Week

Published: 09/09/2026

This week is Zero Waste Week. So here's your chance to think about what you throw away and how you might reduce waste in your home and community.

If you're having a clear-out, take a moment to consider whether items could be reused, repaired, donated or recycled before you chuck them.

For larger items that can't be reused, you can arrange a bulky waste collection through your local council. And please don't leave unwanted items beside communal bins or in communal areas. It's not a dumping ground.

Bulky waste collections

Depending on where you live, your council does have its own bulky waste service and collection requirements:

In Richmond borough? Look out for Mega Skip Days

We support Mega Skip Days alongside Richmond Council and Richmond Furniture Scheme.

These free events give Richmond residents the chance to dispose of certain bulky items without booking. Richmond Furniture Scheme can also collect furniture that could be reused, helping us give unwanted items a second life.

Let’s keep our communities clean

When we book a bulky waste collection, please check your council’s instructions and only put out the items included in the booking.

It's also important you also avoid leaving unwanted items in communal areas or outside before collection. This helps us keep shared spaces safe, clean and welcoming for everyone.

Together, we can waste less, reuse more and look after the communities we’re proud to call home.
