Fighting isolation: RHP’s Winter Warmers initiative returns to support older Londoners

Published: 23/12/2025

We’ve launched the ninth year of our Winter Warmers initiative, which aims to keep our older customers who live independently safe and connected during the colder months.

With 1 million older people across the UK reporting peak isolation during the Christmas period*, initiatives like Winter Warmers are more vital than ever.

This year, all customers aged 80 and over received a financial support directory, signposting them to local support services, including help with fuel costs. A supermarket voucher was also included so customers could treat themselves to something comforting during the colder season. Customers aged over 100 will also receive a personally delivered hamper filled with winter essentials. These visits give our Housing Advisors the opportunity to check whether customers need any support at home, including making sure their boiler is running properly.

New to the initiative this year, from November to February we’ve introduced Coffee & Company drop-in sessions. These sessions are open to people of any age and take place at local community centres, offering a hot drink, a biscuit, and most importantly a friendly chat.

Shola O’Grady, our Head of Housing Services, said:
“We’re thrilled to celebrate another year of Winter Warmers. This initiative remains vital, as we recognise the heightened challenges older people can face during winter – from rising heating costs to feelings of isolation. Supporting our older community continues to be a priority, and we’re committed to making meaningful connections at this time. Whether it’s a voucher for warming treats or a hamper hand-delivered to those over 100, we want to bring a little comfort and connection to our customers this winter.”

We’ve also joined forces with our gas and compliance partner, Smith & Byford, who have part-funded the initiative.

Winter Warmers directly aligns with our purpose – to provide safe, secure homes, opening the door to life opportunities.
