South-west London housing provider RHP has completed Somerville House in Twickenham, providing further London Affordable homes for local people aged 55 and over.
The scheme includes 24 modern, adaptable one-bedroom homes, designed with flexible, independent living in mind. Each home features either a private balcony or terrace, along with dedicated space for a mobility scooter, as well as discreet and effective mobility features such as eight adjustable kitchen tops.
RHP appointed contemporary architect Wimshurst Pelleriti for the design of the innovative development, which also features communal multi-purpose spaces, and a green roof, promoting social connection and sustainability.
RHP’s Chief Executive, Sarah Thomas, says: “We’re really proud of the accessibility features throughout this development, which will allow people’s homes to adapt with them as they get older, enabling residents to retain independence for as long as possible. I wish everyone moving in many happy and healthy years in these beautiful homes”.
RHP has also promoted the scheme to existing customers over 55 who might be ready to downsize, which provides the added benefit of freeing up much-needed family homes in the local community.
Over the past 12 months, RHP has built 125 new affordable, accessible, and sustainable homes in the local area, contributing to their purpose of providing safe, secure homes – opening the door to life opportunities.
