Stay fire safe this Bonfire Night
Published: 03/11/2025
Bonfire Night is a time for celebration, but it's important to stay safe and be considerate of your neighbours.
Attending an organised event
The safest way to enjoy fireworks is at an organised display run by professionals. There are lots of events happening locally:
- Richmond fireworks events
- Kingston fireworks events
- Hounslow fireworks events
- Hillingdon fireworks events
- Spelthorne fireworks events
If you're planning to let off fireworks at home, think about your neighbours. Loud fireworks can be distressing for people with anxiety, young children, elderly residents, and pets. Let your neighbours know in advance if you're planning a display.
Remember that fireworks can only be let off between 7am and 11pm, except on Bonfire Night when you can use them until midnight. Using fireworks outside these times is antisocial behaviour and could lead to action being taken.
Never let off fireworks in communal areas or near buildings. This is dangerous and puts everyone at risk.
In your home
Keep your home safe during the fireworks season. Test your smoke alarm, keep candles away from curtains and other flammable items, and never leave candles unattended. Make sure cigarettes are properly put out.
If there's a fire
If you discover a fire, get out, stay out and call 999. Don't stop to collect belongings and close doors behind you to slow the spread of fire.
If you live in a purpose-built flat, stay in your home unless you're told to leave by the fire service, or if smoke, heat or flames enter your flat.
